"Charlie wanted Renee Fleming to record the Victor Young song 'A Love Like This' composed as the theme of the 1943 movie 'For Whom The Bell Tolls' starring Gary Cooper and Ingrid Bergman. The movie, one of Charlie’s favourites, is adapted from Ernest Hemingway’s novel about the 1936 Spanish Civil War. This explains the Spanish flavour of the song, emphasized by the Ravel-like, lush string arrangement by Alan Broadbent. This is one of the rarely recorded versions with the lyrics. It was amazing to experience Renée Fleming, the world famous Soprano, record this song. Charlie, already a fan of Renée’s classical work, was astonished and delighted by her interpretation of 'A Love Like This.' Her version of Strauss’ 'Four Last Songs' and her renditions of Dvořák, Shubert, Mozart or Massenet, have earned her the distinction as one of the top classical singers. Few people know her talent as a jazz singer. She is not an opera singer singing jazz, but a genuine jazz singer in her own right. Renée has passion and knowledge of this art form and is a great admirer of Shirley Horn, among others." [Source, Source]
