In a new interview with June Anderson, she discusses her early beginnings singing in New Haven, Connecticut. Her first performance was at age 14 in the opera La Princesse au petit pois (1927) by Ernst Toch. She went on to do Haydn's Infedeltà Delusa and her first Gilda in Rigoletto at age 17. She also sang in a high school production of Show Boat. It was also pointed out to her at the start of her taking singing lessons that her voice was reminiscent of Erna Berger. [Source]
