Movie Rewind: Julie Christie As Aging Opera Star

If you're looking to add a romantic dramedy to your Netflix queue try New York, I Love You from 2009. Julie Christie plays a retired opera singer who checks into the top floor of her favorite Manhattan hotel to contemplate her life. There she meets a bellhop played by Shia LaBeouf. Written by the late Anthony Minghella, the scenes are shot with an elysian glow. With nine directors and seventeen writers, the movie also stars Bradley Cooper, Cloris Leachman, Andy Garcia, Natalie Portman, Orlando Bloom, Blake Lively, Hayden Christensen, Rachel Bilson, Carlos Acosta, Drea de Matteo and a host of others.


Synopsis: Ten vignettes in New York City: a pickpocket meets his match; a young Hasidic woman, on the eve of her marriage, reveals herself to an Indian businessman; a writer tries a pick-up line; an artist seeks a model; a composer needs to read; two women connect; a man takes a child to Central Park; lovers meet; a couple takes a walk on their anniversary; a kid goes to the prom with a girl in a wheelchair; a retired singer contemplates suicide.
