Stage director Christoph Marthaler brings together a young cast of invigorating talent including Eric Cutler (Hoffmann), Vito Priante (Four Villains), Measha Brueggergosman (Antonia/Giulietta), Ana Durlovski (Olympia), and Altea Garrido (Stella). The seasoned veteran of the group, mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter, portrays the character of Nicklausse. Conductor Sylvain Cambreling leads the ensemble. The production premiered May 17 and runs through June 21. For more information on the cast and production dates, click here. Watch a preview video after the jump of highlights from the production.

  1. Indeed a host of talent in this production, except the director´s. One of the most irrelevant and incomprehensible attempts to interpret this opera. Unfortunately the Teatro Royal seems have an unlucky hand staging this opera. In 2006 Nicolas Joel made a silly circus show out of it with a life-size steam locomotive on the stage. Surprisingly that produtction was revived around the Mediterranean and even in Norway. And now a boring and lifeless production in an uninspired stage set. The first night was sold out, but none of the later performances. People bought the cheap tickets with impaired or zero vision and cold-shouldered the seats from which you might be able to see the non-action on the stage, listening to the excellent singers and musicians in the pit.
    Typical review (in German)
This production was televised world wide and is available on the Net (, and will be reviced in Stuttgart 14/15. Good productions this season like Oslo´s (Calixto Bieito) and Szeged/Hungary ( are ignored by the media.
