Angela Gheorghiu Becomes A Godmother To Fellow Romanian

Operetta soprano and daughter
Romanian soprano Amelia Antoniu gave birth to a baby girl, Alexia, and Angela Gheorghiu is going to be the godmother. Gheorghiu expressed interest in taking on the role when she found out about the pregnancy. The baby was born prematurely at 35 weeks and had to be placed in an incubator. In August 2010, Amelia told the BBC about contracting a serious infection and nearly dying of major organ failure after going in for a routine operating in a hospital in Bucharest. It forced the
conditions of Romanian healthcare into the limelight. Part of her cervix needed to be removed as a result and so an early birth was expected. Amelia is a leading singer of operetta in Romania. Father Niculae Gament-Antoniu has discussed his joy about the birth. He has already hired a nanny that he found on the internet and turned his former home office into a nursery. Gheorghiu will attend the baptism if her schedule allows, otherwise she will remain an honorary godmother. [Source, Source, Source, Source]
