"Ideale" Tosti sung in 2005 |
The Italian tenor passed away on April 15, 2011, of a heart attack while in Turkey doing master classes. Upon hearing the news, Palermo's Teatro Massimo took a moment of silence where his wife Maria Randazzo was singing in the chorus of Martinů's "The Greek Passion." He was to sing a tribute concert of Frank Sinatra music in July which would have been recorded. Mr. La Scola made his Metropolitan Opera debut in 1993 singing Rodolfo in La Bohème under conductor Carlo Rizzi. He went on to sing the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto (1995), Cavarodossi in Tosca (1996), Alfredo in La Traviata (1997) and reprised his Rodolfo in 2003. He gave his last performance at the MET as Cavaradossi in November 2006. A full biography of the tenor is after the jump.
